THE KING IS NAKED, LONG LIVE THE KING!

Sorry if I vote against, but this album by the much maligned Sigur Rós in my opinion is half a flop, or at least approaches it. Once again, just like in their previous two - and a half - cases, our friends primarily communicate through the image of the band and their albums: ethereal, sophisticated, cool, and very "minimal", and so far so good. The problem, alas, is the musical part. What had thrilled me in the very first "Agaetis Byrjun," waking me from the usual rock-world torpor as it was understood before (and with me, thousands or maybe millions of fans around the world), and reconfirmed in the following "( )", this time I said "STOP". This time the "game" has shown its weak points, churning out yet another - at this point it's necessary - album of songs/lamentations as moving and emotional as you like but which, in fact, apart from some slight deviation, are the same as presented in previous albums.

Guys, open your eyes. Everything has already been said here (and we're immensely grateful for this) but where's the novelty? Where's that minimum amount of exploration you would expect from such a band, perhaps in the sound or the structure of the compositions? What's the motivation to spend money? Collecting? Affection? Consistency? None of this: here, the songs start in the same way, slow and suspended, then after a few minutes burst into a sonic apotheosis only to close slowly (already seen and, for heaven's sake, the formula works and always moves) or in very slow, surreal and visionary lullabies, always constructed in a similar way.

Certainly talented, no one disputes this, but asking to shell out 20 or 25 bucks for something "I've already heard" seems a bit perverse, nihilistic, and, above all, indicative of little openness to all that the musical scene offers anew. Which must always be sought with a fine-tooth comb in the vast sea of nonsense, trivialities, or copies fed to us from all angles, aided by musical journalism outlets that, from time to time, praise the supposed masterpieces of various groups (this from Sigur, for the avoidance of doubt, still travels two notches above the rest) hyping them up a thousand times, creating sometimes forcibly a cult around groups which, in my opinion, might be overvalued.

We'll see if our friends can give us something new with their future works: this time they have wisely used a lot of craft and certainly the skill they possess. In short, less genius and more craftsmanship. I would give a 4 for what they represent, which is always a lot, but I would also give a 2 for the intrinsic value of the album. The average is 3.

Tracklist Lyrics and Samples

01   Takk... (01:57)

02   Glósóli (06:15)

Nú vaknar þú
Allt virðist vera breytt
Eg gægist út
En er svo ekki neitt

Ur-skóna finn svo
A náttfötum hún
I draumi fann svo
Eg hékk á koðnun?

Með sólinni er hún
Og er hún, inni hér

En hvar ert þú....

Legg upp í göngu
Og tölti götuna
Sé ekk(ert) út
Og nota stjörnurnar
Sit(ur) endalaust hún
Og klifrar svo út.

Glósóli-leg hún
Komdu út

Mig vaknar draum-haf
Mitt hjartað, slá
Ufið hár.

Sturlun við fjar-óð
Sem skyldu-skrá.

Og hér ert þú...

Fannst mér.....

Og hér ert þú
Glósóli.....

Og hér ert þú
Glósóli.....

Og hér ert þú
Glósóli.....

Og hér ert þú

03   Hoppípolla (04:28)

Brosandi
Hendumst í hringi
Höldumst í hendur
Allur heimurinn óskýr
Nema þú stendur

Rennblautur
Allur rennvotur
Engin gúmmístígvél
Hlaupandi inn í okkur
Vill springa út úr skel

Vindurinn
Og útilykt af hárinu þínu
Eg lamdi eins fast og ég get
Með nefinu mínu

Hoppípolla
I engum stígvélum
Allur rennvotur (rennblautur)
I engum stígvélum

Og ég fæ blóðnasir
En ég stend alltaf upp
(Hopelandic)

Og ég fæ blóðnasir
Og ég stend alltaf upp
(Hopelandic)

04   Með blóðnasir (02:17)

Instrumental

05   Sé lest (08:40)

[i see a train]
(hopelandic)

06   Sæglópur (07:38)

á lífi
Kominn heim
Sæglópur
á lífi
Kominn heim
það kemur kafari

07   Mílanó (10:25)

Instrumental

08   Gong (05:33)

[gong]
(hopelandic)

09   Andvari (06:40)

Instrumental

10   Svo hljótt (07:24)

[so quietly]

11   Heysátan (04:09)

Heysátan
Höfðum þau hallí ró
En ég sló
Eg sló tún
Eg hef slegið fjandans nóg
En ég sló
Heysátan
Þá fer að fjúka út
Ut í mó.. (ég dró)
Heyvagn á massey ferguson
Því hann gaf undan
Og mér fótur rann... Andskotann
Eg varð undan
Og nú hvíli hér
Með beyglað der
Og sáttur halla nú höfði hér

The emotions you feel when listening to this music are comparable to those... simple, pure emotions.

Takk... conveys light, shadows, melancholy, happiness. These are the emotions I felt.

It is music that goes beyond music, an inexplicable sort of spell that hides behind an apparently simple and reassuring façade.

There are three almost hidden tracks, one after the other, three perfect songs that will tear your heart to pieces.

The beauty of Sigur Rós's music is intangible; their success is inexplicable.

A drug for the ears, the mind, the heart. Simply: the best band on the planet!!!

Sigur Rós have studied, improving their technique. Losing a bit of their naturalness and spontaneity.

Despite everything, there is no nostalgia, because live they unleash a vital force of unstoppable energy.

The northern ice has melted under a new sun.

An emotional masterpiece, a unique work.
