Are you familiar with that vast land at the edge of the world which appears on the map as Iceland? Would you ever have bet that even there, musical albums destined to remain in the history of music are produced?

I don't know if Sigur Ros (in Italian "Rosa della vittoria") ever bet they would become so famous worldwide, but the fact is that their music, a blend of world music, ambient, post-rock ante litteram, slow core, and dream pop (surprising, right?), really had an effect on the audience, asserting the presence of an Icelandic group as significant as Sigur Ros (even Mum tried, but they certainly did not reach such a level) in the music market.

With "Takk" (meaning "Thank you"), they reach maturity, after releasing 3 other official albums, other rarities, and EPs, breaking into the world market and capturing the hearts of many, thanks to the sweet melodies and the delicate pianos that bring us back to childhood (in some songs, they even sample a music box like those placed over babies' cribs).
The songs on the album have an average duration of 5-6 minutes each (with peaks of 10-11 minutes in Milan), but despite that, the album passes through our ears wonderfully.

Like in an eternal Boléro by Ravel, the songs start in perfect tranquility and rationality, with an almost ostentatious slowness, and progress as the minutes pass, leading to an irrational sonic storm, a confluence of eternal emotion and absolute sound until a burst of fire (painted by ultra-distorted guitars like in Glósóli or by orchestral trombones and brass like in Hoppípolla) concentrated and immediate, until the burst is exhausted and an imperceptible calm returns, almost a whisper emerging from a deep sleep that closes the songs. The music of Sigur Ros becomes a sort of soundtrack of our lives, starting with childhood where tranquility and ignorance reign, culminating in the peak of vital impetus (adolescence) and then slowly aging until the last breath before nothingness.

Surely, the Icelandic scenery has influenced and shaped many of the group's stylistic and sonic choices, but despite everything they try to communicate through their music, it universalizes perfectly to each of us, making us participants in the beauty of nature, the simplicity, and the brevity of every single emotion, action, and moment of our lives.

"Takk" is recommended to all those who love ambient, post-rock, and alternative music, but also to those who love classical music or those who have never tried to approach the genre, because the album will completely capture you, and then you'll listen to it while studying or working, while waiting for the train or bus, while you are in the park, on the grass reading a book. You will listen to it everywhere.

Tracklist Lyrics and Samples

01   Takk... (01:57)

02   Glósóli (06:15)

Nú vaknar þú
Allt virðist vera breytt
Eg gægist út
En er svo ekki neitt

Ur-skóna finn svo
A náttfötum hún
I draumi fann svo
Eg hékk á koðnun?

Með sólinni er hún
Og er hún, inni hér

En hvar ert þú....

Legg upp í göngu
Og tölti götuna
Sé ekk(ert) út
Og nota stjörnurnar
Sit(ur) endalaust hún
Og klifrar svo út.

Glósóli-leg hún
Komdu út

Mig vaknar draum-haf
Mitt hjartað, slá
Ufið hár.

Sturlun við fjar-óð
Sem skyldu-skrá.

Og hér ert þú...

Fannst mér.....

Og hér ert þú
Glósóli.....

Og hér ert þú
Glósóli.....

Og hér ert þú
Glósóli.....

Og hér ert þú

03   Hoppípolla (04:28)

Brosandi
Hendumst í hringi
Höldumst í hendur
Allur heimurinn óskýr
Nema þú stendur

Rennblautur
Allur rennvotur
Engin gúmmístígvél
Hlaupandi inn í okkur
Vill springa út úr skel

Vindurinn
Og útilykt af hárinu þínu
Eg lamdi eins fast og ég get
Með nefinu mínu

Hoppípolla
I engum stígvélum
Allur rennvotur (rennblautur)
I engum stígvélum

Og ég fæ blóðnasir
En ég stend alltaf upp
(Hopelandic)

Og ég fæ blóðnasir
Og ég stend alltaf upp
(Hopelandic)

04   Með blóðnasir (02:17)

Instrumental

05   Sé lest (08:40)

[i see a train]

á lífi
Kominn heim
Sæglópur
á lífi
Kominn heim
það kemur kafari

07   Mílanó (10:25)

Instrumental

08   Gong (05:33)

[gong]
(hopelandic)

09   Andvari (06:40)

10   Svo hljótt (07:24)

[so quietly]

11   Heysátan (04:09)

Heysátan
Höfðum þau hallí ró
En ég sló
Eg sló tún
Eg hef slegið fjandans nóg
En ég sló
Heysátan
Þá fer að fjúka út
Ut í mó.. (ég dró)
Heyvagn á massey ferguson
Því hann gaf undan
Og mér fótur rann... Andskotann
Eg varð undan
Og nú hvíli hér
Með beyglað der
Og sáttur halla nú höfði hér

The emotions you feel when listening to this music are comparable to those... simple, pure emotions.

Takk... conveys light, shadows, melancholy, happiness. These are the emotions I felt.

It is music that goes beyond music, an inexplicable sort of spell that hides behind an apparently simple and reassuring façade.

There are three almost hidden tracks, one after the other, three perfect songs that will tear your heart to pieces.

The beauty of Sigur Rós's music is intangible; their success is inexplicable.

A drug for the ears, the mind, the heart. Simply: the best band on the planet!!!

Sigur Rós have studied, improving their technique. Losing a bit of their naturalness and spontaneity.

Despite everything, there is no nostalgia, because live they unleash a vital force of unstoppable energy.

The northern ice has melted under a new sun.

An emotional masterpiece, a unique work.
