Sidney Charles Pollack (July 1, 1934 – May 26, 2008) was an American film director, producer and actor, known for films such as The Way We Were, Tootsie and Out of Africa.

Pollack won Academy Awards for Best Director (and as producer for Best Picture) for Out of Africa (1985).

The available review (London) gives a mixed reading of The Way We Were: Pollack's direction is generally praised while the screenplay is faulted for trying to cover too much. Performances are seen as uneven, with Streisand described as overacting and Redford as passable. The film's political moments were reportedly cut, weakening its scope.
