Second musical effort for the group from Pordenone, formed by two survivors of Prozac+. Gianmaria Accusani, the driving force and writing hand behind both groups, decides with this record to return to recording his (hypnotic) voice on disc, after the cosmic void left in the debut work of Sick Tamburo.
The latter was held up by the weak monotony of Elisabetta Imelio, who only during a few instances could capture the listener's ear, despite some well-crafted killer riffs. The beautiful singer/bassist improves in this album, but she doesn't have one of those instantly striking voices, despite the peculiarity of the vocal lines.
In this second attempt, the group manages to give greater depth to the product, learning the lesson and increasingly differentiating melodies, rhythms, and vocals. The killer riffs remain, beautifully ignorant, reminiscent of the best works of Wes Borland.
They find greater development of electronic measurement elements ("La mia mano sola" is the main example, with references to Fischerspooner), but despite the use of synthesizers, Accusani keeps alive the musical poetics that have always distinguished his work: essentiality serving itself (art for art's sake applied).
The writing remains along the lines of the previous work, but reduces the annoying and forced repetitions at the beginning of the sentence* which had so deeply characterized the 2009 self-titled album. (* "anaphora" seemed frankly too much for a first review).
The album will surely not impress technicism fanatics, diminished chords, or syncopated rhythms, but it might still leave traces in the subconscious of more skeptical listeners.
Our Accusani has always had the merit of knowing how to write very catchy songs without being overindulgent, even in the most blatantly sweet episodes (who remembers GM and Vorrei of Prozac+ ?), but above all, he possesses an unmistakable timbre that allows him to make otherwise embarrassing episodes enjoyable (from this album, "Magra").
Anyone who has been to a Sick Tamburo concert has surely heard Hardcore Tamburo, a small side project of electronic music and beaten tin cans. One of these pieces appears in "La canzone del rumore," the best-executed episode of the album.
The sensation remains, as it has for the past 15 years, that Accusani could express himself best on a solo album; perhaps in 2023, where people still die of AIDS.
