The sound of Shiny Toy Guns is a mix of electronic, rock, pop, indie. The band was formed in Los Angeles in 2002, thanks to the meeting of Jeremy Dawson and Gregori Chad Petree.
The two worked together for several years, and later Carah Charnow and Mikey Martin joined the band in 2004. In 2005, they released "We Are Pilots."
The album starts with "Don't Cry Out," this sweet-paced song is very catchy, also thanks to the beautiful voice of Carah Charnow, the only girl in the band. "Rainy Monday" is a great track sung by the band's first vocalist, Gregori Petree, and is characterized by a good musical base and a lot of electronics. "Le Disko" is definitely sweeter compared to the previous tracks. Sung only by Carah, it's a bit disappointing but still catchy.
After the title track "We Are Pilots," we find "You Are The One," in my opinion, this song will climb the international charts. Beautiful chorus, great work by the Gregori-Carah duo, whose voices thrill those who listen. Excellent the base, the best of the album. After this lovely track, the album loses quality; the sound becomes a bit monotonous, and in my opinion, 15 songs are a bit too much. At the end, you lose that sparkle that characterized the beginning of the CD.
We Are Pilots is still an interesting album, tracks like "Don't Cry Out", "You Are The One" are worth listening to. Songs like "The Weather Girl" and "Waiting" should be avoided, with sounds that strongly, too much so, recall Aqua.
Nevertheless, Shiny Toy Guns have brought a breath of fresh air into the world of electronics. Much will be said about them in 2007.
