What genre do Shinebox propose? The answers online are numerous: some say rock, some say post-hardcore, some say new school hardcore, and the list goes on... The truth is that such media confusion is always counterproductive, both for the reader and for the band, which finds itself in a jumble of often senseless words gifted by the writer of the moment.

Then there are situations like that of Shinebox, where besides the media chaos, there is also chaos within the band itself, as despite having a couple of productions behind them and tours across the Channel with "Into The Great Void," these musicians have not yet managed to find their ideal dimension to move within. Their proposal is decidedly varied, bordering on disjointed: within each song, there are indeed multiple technical and stylistic variations that fail to give the listener the defining features of what this work should represent. Post-hardcore? Definitely not, although now and then, the willingness to try can be noticed. New school hardcore? Perhaps, since ultimately, under this term, proposals that are difficult to categorize (like this one, precisely) are directed. Rock? In some instances, yes, especially when Shinebox engages in riffs with high melodic content.

In short, a work to be studied in percentages. Despite this, it must be admitted that there are some merits, such as the ability to occasionally produce great songs and be reliable in heavier situations. On the other hand, the vocal parts do not convince, especially the melodic ones, too weak when compared to the rest of the proposal. The final judgment is an almost sufficiency, dictated by the fact that despite everything, these musicians still have some good cards to play. Stay tuned for further developments in this regard.
