THE REVIEW

Following the musical flops of "Magia" and "Peligro," the first two albums of the Barranquilla singer, Shakira returns to the Latin American scene with a new album: "Pies descalzos."

The songs are more polished, more autobiographical than the other two works, and the artist's inner and vocal growth is evident. The album opens with the cheerful "Estoy aquí," a song that won many awards. It then moves to the touching "Antología," the ultimate expression of love in this album... and reading the lyrics, one can't help but recognize themselves and be fascinated. The dance floor heats up again with the reggaeton "Un poco de amor," where Shaky duets with her keyboardist, the Cuban Albert Menéndez. More romantic songs follow with "Te necesito" and "Quiero," and once again a fast-paced, humorous track, like "Vuelve." Without pausing, we move to the sweet yet rhythmic "Te espero sentada," which showcases the vocal ability of the Colombian artist.

Now it's the turn of the wonderful "Pies descalzos, sueños blancos": the irony with which Shakira talks about Colombian society everyday, the fast rhythm of the verses, and the simplicity of the structure make this song fascinating. We then move to "Pienso en ti," featured on the soundtrack of the film "Love in the Time of Cholera," but we pause for just a moment to then dive into the somewhat sappy lyrics of "Donde estás corazón," and we conclude with the amusing "Se quiere, se mata," where Shakira tells us about a couple of young people who find themselves expecting an unexpected child in a society where... what is not wanted is killed, as the title suggests.

The first step of the new Shakira, the one that made her beloved by millions of South Americans. A Shakira who puts herself in these works. Anything but commercial.
