A little while ago, I learned that Shai Hulud has decided to break up. Geert will return to the Netherlands, and almost certainly, his voice will never again open our hearts, tearing them apart to make us savor raw feelings even more. The two Matts (guitar and bass) will form Warmth Of Red Blood... and the adventure called Shai Hulud will only be a memory.
For me, "Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion" is an immense album... actually, it's not even a simple album... it's a work of Art with a capital A... a monument to human emotions... a sonic magma never static, capable of folding onto itself, tangling to an apparent point of no return, only to then open into instrumental melodies of rare beauty and effectiveness. Songs like "My Heart Bleeds The Darkest Blood", "A Profound Hatred Of A Man", and "This Wake I Myself Have Stirred" have opened more than one door to the hardcore universe and the hundreds of bands that now crowd that scene. A door that was completely dismantled a couple of years ago by the subsequent "That Within Blood Ill-Tempered", so advanced in the conception of emo/metalcore as to leave anyone in awe.
