THE REVIEW

Hello everyone, as my first review I've chosen the second to last album by Sentenced: "The Cold White Light."

Let's start with the intro "Konevitsan Kirkonkellot", characterized by a gothic setting and accompanied by a solemn arpeggio. "Cross My Heart and Hope to Die" is one of the most beautiful tracks on the album, if not the most beautiful, with a well-crafted intertwining of arpeggios, an explosive chorus, a chilling final solo, and a depressing lyric. "Brief Is the Light" opens with a semi-distorted arpeggio that continues to accompany the riff of the second guitar; the spoken part is also accompanied by an intertwining of guitar arpeggios with a nice bass line, then it continues with an engaging chorus and a well-made solo. "Neverlasting" is certainly the most immediate track on the CD, with a fast start, then the guitars stop and you can only hear the bass accompanying the voice. In the chorus, there is also a sort of duet between the main and secondary vocals followed by an energetic and fast solo. "Aika Multaa Muistot (Everything Is Nothing)" is a calm piece that becomes harder midway, certainly less involving than the previous tracks. Another energetic song is "Excuse Me While I Kill Myself" which has the best chorus on the CD and a nice interlude. "Blood & Tears" is yet another masterpiece of the album, following the path taken by the previous track. "You Are the One" is a sentimental love song with a very soppy text, but nonetheless superb. "Guilt and Regret" is accompanied by the use of the keyboard, and although it's a pleasant piece, it is inferior to most of the previous tracks. "The Luxury of a Grave" also gives an excellent contribution to the album.

Finally, the most melancholic piece, closing this masterpiece album beautifully: "No One There". Absolutely watch the video that will leave even the "hardest" hearts with a lump in their throats. I conclude by saying that this album will not please everyone; those who loved the old Sentenced (the death ones) were or will be a bit disappointed. But trust me... it is a masterpiece!!

Thanks for your attention, if I made too many "horrors" please forgive me!!!! DON'T HIT ME!!!!

Sentenced

Sentenced were a Finnish metal band known for a pronounced evolution in sound: early releases rooted in death metal, later moving toward a more melodic, gothic-leaning style. The band ended their career in 2005, releasing "The Funeral Album" that same year.

If you can’t stand HIM and their "love metal" (brrrrrr... gives me chills just to write it) go read something else because this CD is not for you.

"A coffin will be way too nice, a see-through plastic bag will do just fine" (The Luxury of a Grave) but we are not talking about a corpse, we are talking about how to hide the CD ;)

The album in question is a great record.

A journey into the 'Cold White Light' is highly recommended, truly a great soundtrack during a winter day with some worries drifting away and some too many memories advancing menacingly...
