THE REVIEW

Impressive. The first word that comes to mind after listening to this album is simply impressive. It was already known that Sensefield (or let's say ex-Reason To Believe) were one of the most original, acclaimed, and competent emo bands, but here we are faced with an authentic masterpiece.

"Tonight and Forever" alone summarizes 20 years of punk-HC from the Californian scene and projects far beyond, flaunting evolved and original sounds which, combined with John Butch's superb voice (probably the best in his genre), make this CD something difficult to surpass (always within its genre). The guiding thread of the album is this: guitars in the Dischord style (do Fugazi, Dag Nasty, and Minor Threat ring a bell?) and emotional punk-rock in which something of Pixies(!), Face To Face, and My Bloody Valentine is evident. For a good part of the CD, the typical "honey" of emo is left within the instruments, masterfully played by Rodney Sellars and Chris Evenson (guitars), which instead unleash bursts of energetic adrenaline. You must have certainly understood that this is not the usual boring and whining emo album, the kind that would piss off a metalhead; there is also violence in here, folks!

Of the wonderful 12 tracks included in the CD, Weight Of The World, Are You Ok, Save Yourself, and No Longer Now stand out for their effectiveness—lively and sustained tracks, engaging, rich with the classic rhythmic cues that make your head bob or urge you to tear your lips away from your woman's (or someone else's...). Excellent as well is Love Song, a rough track in the style of Texas Is The Reason and played in a very refined manner, in which the overlays between "high" and "low" guitars create an atmosphere of bygone memories, which is precisely what one seeks in a true emo band. Slightly below par (but for me, being “sanguine”) are only two tracks, namely Fun Never Ends and Am I A Fool, classic slow and sweet tracks for fans of bands like The Get Up Kids or Mineral.

Of course, "Tonight And Forever" is a great melodic Hard Core CD and I think it will be remembered as one of the best emo releases ever, but for this very reason, I recommend it only to those who speak emo... emotional punks of the world unite, this is the CD for you!
