Wawadilla is an interesting album that combines different "worlds" of rock in an unexpected yet perfectly natural way. The band has a personal and original style, yet at the same time sounds familiar: the tracks are pleasant and direct, and convey a strong energy.
A clear punk influence can be recognized in the lead vocals, which, however, intersect with the female backing vocals that add a lot in terms of harmony and dynamics to the songs.

Musically, the punk rock influence is also felt (although we certainly speak more of bands like the later Green Day or Offspring than the Ramones), as well as a clear new wave influence with an almost dance beat that emerges in several songs, even if there is no lack of tracks that can fall into classic hard rock.
In this vein, the various tracks differ from one another and each has its own character, which contributes to the enjoyable listening experience of the album, which does not become monotonous.

Mentioning a few songs in random order, "Sweat" certainly deserves a highlight, perhaps the most punk among the songs on the album along with "More Sleep," a concentrate of energy and vitality. "Energy," as well as "Need" and "Wanna Be" clearly showcase the dance "drive," especially during the choruses, and are songs that would deserve a spot in a rock DJ set. "The Weird Ones" is an excellent example of more classic hard rock and is an extremely engaging song. "Hello Mary Kate," on the other hand, is a simple ballad but is greatly appreciated both for a melody that sticks in your mind and for a very well-crafted arrangement.

Overall, an album that is definitely worth a listen (and possibly even a visit to a live show by the band, where the energy that shines through the album is conveyed even more), and that bodes well for the future of Selvana.
