Many begin their reviews with a quote from a philosopher, artist, writer, or even from the album itself; I would looove to quote some section of some lyrics from some song on this album, but, for purely technical reasons, I find myself unable to do so.
Oh yes, because this Synthethik 1 is an entirely instrumental album.
Oh dear, instrumental... that word seems somewhat unsuitable. To me (and I say to me, not to you or him, to me), instrumental gives the idea of something harmonious, something strictly harmonic, boringly perfect, whereas what we are going to talk about is an album that is delightfully noise, industrial, and, true to the best traditions of this genre, decidedly chaotic.
There are those who associate industrial with artists like Marilyn Manson or SOAD, well, if you are among these beings, stay away, because upon listening to Seesselberg you might find yourself frightened or even worse, shocked for the remaining duration of your anyway ephemeral life. It happened to me.
I had said, no look, just one listen, then I'll stop there, you'll see, I'm someone who can control myself, and indeed here I am, after listening to it a hundred and more times, reviewing it. It's a bad affair, believe me, you can't get out of it.
The album, finally we talk about it, was released only in Germany in 1971 (but some say 1973), and it is the apotheosis of electronic experimentation:
featured throughout the LP are true bursts of frequency, voltage changes, high-voltage electric shocks, primordial electronic glitches: industrial electronics, but shamelessly analog! As if Tangerine Dream, Faust, and Black Sabbath all found themselves on a record, yes, you read that right, Black Sabbath, because the tracks, especially the first ones, are powerful but also infused with that particular veil of mystery surrounding them, a characteristic typical of the Iommi & Co group.
In conclusion, an album twenty years ahead of its time, one that's rare to find, of which there are very few.
Lost, mysterious, unknown, but above all: a precursor of a certain underground music of the 90s.
