It is among the albums, if not the album, that I have most appreciated in this semester of 2005. Smooth and graceful, majestically simple and direct, capable of captivating from the first listen and inviting multiple repeat plays thereafter.
The doubt in these cases is that in the long run it might become tedious, that it's "easy stuff" and the allure might be destined to fade quickly and unexpectedly, betraying expectations and leaving us like sad children in front of a broken toy.
But no! And this is coming from someone who has been listening to it with renewed pleasure for 4 months. For the record, it is melodic pop very close to Air, Aqualung, Radiohead. The voice indeed reminds one of Thom Yorke's. What else to add, except that it's surprising that this is a debut, as Sébastien presents himself in ways more akin to a seasoned and mature artist who asserts himself with authority, tranquillity, and confidence to his audience.
It's easy to make things complicated; it's more complicated to make them simple, and Sébastien Schuller does it brilliantly!
