Biographical film, based on the true story of the Irish gangster James "Whitey" Bulger (Johnny Depp), brother of William Michael Bulger (Benedict Cumberbatch), who was president of the Massachusetts State Senate from 1978 to 1996.

Whitey, a small and ruthless boss of South Boston, is at war with the Italian mafia for control of the territory.

Whitey is a small fish, the FBI wants Angiulo, the Italian boss. John Connoly (Joel Edgerton), an ambitious FBI official, was born in this very neighborhood, was a friend of Whitey, they grew up together, and he intends to hook onto Whitey (but don't call him that) to get the right tips to hit the mafia at its heart.

Whitey as an informant? Whitey a snitch? Never ... but somehow Whitey agrees ... because Whitey has a plan...

I saw it yesterday at a preview at the Adriano cinema, in the "bio" room where they project only biographical films in preview and in the original language.

It will be released tomorrow and by God don't miss it for any reason.

I've read various negative critiques, I don't know what to say, to me they either don't understand a damn thing or are paid to put this film down. Or who knows, they talk badly about it because there are too many swear words... they say "FUCK!" 254 times.

One of the best gangster-movies I've ever seen, without a doubt.

Johnny Depp is a monster of talent, with his icy, inhuman eyes, and slicked-back thinning hair, he gives you absolutely nothing, he’s like the T-1000 but a gangster. He apparently declared that this is his favorite movie among all those he's made.

Nothing to say even to the co-stars (there's also the excellent Kevin Bacon, an actor quite underrated in my opinion).

Bulger's henchmen? Calm, almost bored but they kill you in a snap and bury you under the bridge, it’s just business.

In short, I've never seen a gangster movie like this.

I’ve said many times that I love realistic films and this time I really believed it. Imagine that Bulger's gang apparently said that Depp is Bulger.

Critics would have denigrated what is, in my opinion, the film's strength, its originality, namely, the lack of sensationalism, epic breath, in short, all those wonderful wow-wow-wow things we see in movies of this type. Slow motions, hyper-violence, climactic scenes of screams, blows, baseball bats, people sleeping with the fishes-joe-pesci...

None of that.

And yet it’s a damn fierce, dark, violent movie indeed.

Beautiful.

I had never seen a gangster movie like this.

Yes, in short, I think this scoundrelry is exactly as we see them in this film and not as they have been shown to us in films of much greater substance and directed by people significantly more "skilled".

And yet.

And yet by God don’t miss it for any reason.

FUCK!
