If I were an educated philosopher, I could talk for hours about the dilemma between the ego and the id*. The clash between soul and flesh, the existence of God within us. But I'm just Isis, and you don't understand much of Isidian...
Scialpi too handsome to be just a singer, blue eyes fluid black hair; debuted in the summer of 1983 with Rocking Rolling (yes, with the final Gs), produced by that old fox Migliacci of RCA.
Due to the excellent commercial success of the single, he was all the rage in the summer of 1983 alongside the legendary Vamos Alla Playa by Righeira, not to mention the contemporary Doot Doot and Bollicine. In the fall "Estensioni" was released, an ambitious LP that was supposed to catapult the young Scialpi into the Olympus of Italian music, but the album, despite numerous TV appearances, turned out to be not very homogeneous and too difficult for the adoring girls who screamed "handsome!!" "hunk!". They insisted on appearing on TV with the track Commandos, which was a clone of Rocking Rolling; the production went overboard with torn clothes and the Mad Max atmosphere that pervaded the tracks. It would have been much better to break away from the summer cliché and cling to better structured and less superficial tracks like L'io e l'es.
Extensions indeed, or tension of the id.
The lyricist, the aforementioned Migliacci, tries to do an almost philosophical work, but the creature dies in his arms leaving a hybrid work between rock and sentimentalism of the author. Some tracks are still pleasant to listen to, while others are quite irritating like "Ottovolante" or "Calma", slightly better "Commandos, Nero e Blu, Hallò Hallò", the best tracks are the already mentioned "Rocking Rolling" and "L'io e l'es", also used for one of the first Italian music videos.
In the following years, Scialpi managed to carve out his niche of fame, even winning a FestivalBar, in a duo with Scarlet, with the song "Pregherai", with numerous appearances at Sanremo making him one of the youth idols of the '80s. The best work of his career will be the single "Cigarettes and Coffee".
Giovanni Scialpi and I are the same age, he is much more handsome than me.
