I have to tell the truth, when I saw the name of this band, I didn't jump, but I was left with that sweet taste that curiosity leaves in your mouth to hear the product of a band you know nothing about except that it is placed, from the few reviews I read, in the vast world of Death Metal.
So I said to myself, come on, have courage, what's the harm in giving them a listen. And so, one distant afternoon a year ago, I devoted my ears and mind to the perception of this work of theirs titled "Pathetic Being".
Ehh... the twists of life, it was indeed by chance that I listened to them, and from there, I realized that the twists of life are the core of our existence: I had never listened to such beautiful pieces, never before experienced the thrill I felt that distant afternoon that seemed like just another afternoon but opened up this musical masterpiece before me, where Jacek Hiro's extraordinary guitar technique is sublimely expressed, embellishing each and every song.
The songs are all furious death metal, the stone-breaking drums supporting the devastating and melodic guitar, slow and fast, intoxicating and furious in bursts, expression of the genius and technical skills of the wizard Jacek Hiro, the true creator of this wicked and brilliant creature at the same time, unknown to many but revered by the few who have grasped the immeasurability of its essence.
The intro immediately shows we are faced with something original, an intro that leaves you with the desire for an immediate replay; accustomed as we are to outright discarding those contrived intros created out of duty as if they are part of a fad, I start going into raptures and run it through my mind for a good half-hour.
Great, if these were the preliminaries, something grandiose is in store: ummhh I first cancel an appointment with two coworkers, as well as the daily hour-long walk to invigorate body and soul; I won’t take the headphones off until the morning of the following day when the rays of the sun will awaken me from the journey in that fantastic world hand in hand with this wonderful album.
Returned to reality, I begin to retrace the dream made. Ancient Portal unfolds in all its fury, a lacerating power under the tight reins of a precise and exasperated technique: all-out varied and sharp riffs, in preparation for the inevitable and essential blazing and highly technical solo of the wizard Jacek.
Just an example of what will come after with pieces alternating fury and melody in a masterful way, masterpiece solos over an orgy of anger, calm, and exasperation in both senses, a concentrate of power, melody, and technique: ehhh how scarce the words are, how reductive the dictionary from which to draw, when needing to describe such sensations.
An unforgettable album that I recommend to all lovers of the genre; those pieces are permanent in my mind, certain riffs that won’t leave me and accompany me in my daily life, lying on the bed, the listening and the memory of the chords let me abandon reality, senses get lost, the mind levitates in a bubble, I look at the starry sky and find myself enveloped by the sea of the universe: an album, a masterpiece that my humble words of an ordinary mortal have had the presumption to describe. Now it is up to you to let yourself be intoxicated by its very notes.
