THE REVIEW

Mini album dated 1997 for Satyricon, then fresh from the success obtained with the essential "Nemesis Divina".

A short but very interesting chapter as it offers some gems in the band's repertoire and adds value to the mini-CD format, which is normally a profit-driven venture.

Four tracks, three of which are studio recordings and one (raw but effective) live recording of the track "Forhekset" in Essen, Germany. "The dawn of a new age" reinterpreted by the Norwegian electronic gods 'Apoptygma Berzerk' turns out to be unsettling with its futuristic loops and recited vocal parts.. spine-chilling.
"Night of the divine power" re-recorded with more professional equipment than before is devastating, malevolent and Frost turns the rhythm section into a real war machine. The medieval atmospheres temper its ferocity and give it a fairytale aura. Excellent!

"Orgasmatron" by Motörhead is presented here in an almost industrial version (particularly the drums) with Satyr's voice truly chilling and certainly much more interesting than Lemmy's singing. I would say better than the original.

Ultimately, a mini of value that once again showcases the Norwegians' distinctive characteristic: originality.

Satyricon

Satyricon are a Norwegian extreme metal band widely discussed in these reviews as a key name in Norwegian black metal, particularly for their early-to-mid 1990s releases, and later for a divisive shift toward groove/rock-inflected sounds.
