The Satyricon released this mini album in 1999, anticipating the release of "Rebel Extravaganza" that would definitively distance them from the way of understanding and playing the Black Metal typical of the old school.
The EP, composed of four songs, starts magnificently with "A Moment Of Clarity", an excellent song characterized by numerous tempo changes and the glacial feeling typical of the genre, yet presented in an innovative way. This would later be included in the aforementioned "Rebel Extravaganza", becoming in my opinion one of its highest points. Following closely is "INRI", a cover of the Brazilian Sarcofago: violent, irreverent, and fast-paced in its two minutes of duration, it presents us with a brutality never unleashed by Satyricon before; not surprisingly, the beloved Mr. Wongraven described it as "totally insane". The third track is "Nemesis Divina", an epic, powerful composition already appeared on the album of the same name, which is presented here with a fresher and cleaner sampling than the one dating back to 1996. "Intermezzo II" finally closes with "Blessed From Below". This track is the most difficult to interpret, but perhaps also the most successful of the EP: dark and saturated with electronic sounds, it represents an absolute novelty for Satyricon.

In conclusion, this mini album sounds fresh and surprising from the very first listen. It will surely leave impressed those who are familiar with the previous production of our band and will be able to appreciate their change of direction towards more experimental shores.

Tracklist Lyrics and Videos

01   A Moment of Clarity (06:40)

Without beginning, Without the end (Our lifeblood)
The road for the spiritual outlaws is never ending
And so is the hunt for all those answers
The devil may hold your truth, What a fucking relief it would Be (To know)
Bluecold and the grim truth stands before you (All you ever wanted?)
Descend and fly away to another day, another night
Sleep forever or serve to justify
The brand that you wear speak of what you are made of
It leaves you like an open book for everyone to read
Is this it, Is this what you wanted?
The eye of the rest on your back
To be a part of the masterplan is the only way to spiritual hell
Drink to that and never forget where you came from
Cause there's no such thing as a one way ticket to hell
What a fucking relief that is
Descend and fly away to another day, Another night
Sleep forever or serve to justify

02   INRI (at 251 BPM) (02:10)

03   Nemesis Divina (clean vision mix) (05:15)

04   Blessed From Below (06:03)

Salvation: A merciless hand
from below holding the melancholy of
a million strangled souls Part, melancholy

So warm and glorious
embraced in a black mass
a mass which holds
the pain of oppression Part, oppression

I'll reach out for that salvation hand
and accept its shinig blessing
so that I can bear their pain and longing Part, longing
