Well, here you have a killer doom band. Who are they???? The Saturnus, in simple words the good cousins of Swallow The Sun, and a band that boasts something like fifteen years of activity with more than one album under their belt. A band that has remained for too long anchored to the Scandinavian underground and that will very likely leave it after this excellent work (not that the previous works were any less).
What does the return of Saturnus bring us? Emotions and romance galore!!! Indeed, they enchant in almost all their tracks, ""I Long" whispers emotions of despair and darkness, more than ten minutes of that something that cannot be explained in words. I want to add before moving forward that these guys are not mere copies of Swallow The Sun or My Dying Bride, but rather, even though their genre leans heavily on that Doom/Death so dear to those two fabulous bands, Saturnus still manage to convince us that their fifteen years of activity carry significant weight. ""Pretend" is even darker and more "evil" but still melancholic. If you're listening to it, I hope you're alone in the dark and, most importantly, with your eyes closed. It's just a tip to better listen to and grasp it. ""Descending" is truly a strain; it’s not easy to write and above all have the courage to include songs like these, but the Danes got it right here as well, brilliant.
""Rain Wash Me" closely approaches the more famous ""The Cry Of Mankind" but does not copy, absolutely not. ""All Alone" is a crescendo of emotions that leads us to perhaps the most beautiful song of the work. ""Embraced By Darkness" as said before is the best; if you're not clear on the meaning of the word Doom, then just listen to songs like this and doubts are immediately dispelled. ""To The Dreams" and ""Murky Waters" close the album leaving me perplexed, indeed, how is it possible that no one ever noticed a band like this before??? You might say they haven't made great works in the past. However, driven by curiosity, I investigated and listened and was pleasantly surprised by the great quality of previous works that are not less than this...
Well done well done!!!!!
