We can say that her "Love Song", with its pounding piano and sticky rhythm, has become a classic over time. That second LP, "Little Voice" from 2007, had the merit of containing a good amount of excellent songs, among which the beautiful "Gravity" stood out (check out the very informal duet with Alicia Keys). Sara Bareilles is a talented songwriter, much loved in the USA but little appreciated in Italy, where we remained stuck with the aforementioned "Love Song". A pianist, with a very beautiful, enveloping voice that carries darker and grittier nuances ("Vegas" also from "Little Voice"), she has a versatile talent that led her to move from her native California to New York in search of fortune in the musical environments of Broadway and the Village. This seventh effort of '19 sees T-Bone Burnett at the helm and shifts the sound towards a fuller, thicker form thanks to the evergreen Jim Keltner's drums and a more prominent use of electric guitars and bass. If the opening with "Fire" is quite predictable in its tribal rhythm, it is with the ballads "Armor", "Saint Honesty", and the jazzy "Simone" that the album takes on its best colors. "Eyes on You" is the best-constructed song, with a tense atmosphere accompanied by captivating and gripping vocals. Closing the album is the intense duet with John Legend in "A Safe Place to Land". A very successful collaboration that sees them reunited after Jesus Christ Superstar, in which Bareilles gave voice and body to a magnificent Mary Magdalene.
