If you don't know Santana and are looking for his best album, or have become a fan after the recent successes of Shaman and Supernatural, then Santana III is the album you're looking for!
This is the last album of the fantastic line-up that participated in Woodstock, namely Rolie on vocals and keyboards, Brown on bass, Carabello on congas, Crepito Areas on timbales, the fantastic Shrieve on drums, Schon, and of course, curly Carlos on guitars.
Batuka: the first song starts with a bang. Great Carlos on guitar. A rhythmic instrumental that you won't be able to resist dancing to.
No one to depend on: the most memorable track. Santana has never played better. There are many colors and life in this piece, you won't regret it.
Taboo: a true piece of music, with some modern airs. Final solo by Schon.
Touissant l'overture: a classic. You'll dance with the organ killed by Rolie, then let the percussion transport you. Here we go!
Everybody's Everything: the most commercial track. Not much to say about it.
Guajira: a fiesta song! Areas plays the timbales like castanets.
Jungle strut: Carlos and Neal exchange guitar passages, and along with the organ, make this piece extreme.
Everything's Coming our Way: a track in the style of Caravanserai. What can I say, it's undoubtedly a Feel-Song!
Para los rumberos: more bangs, at the beginning and the end. After the soft song before, this one puts us face to face with the skins and has a strong rhythm. Puente said that when he wrote it, he was high.
So, what the band offers is a representation of their early internal stylistic changes. Good album.
The album deserves 3 stars because it came out in 1969, when other stuff of greater value was released: 5 stars (King Crimson, Zappa, Beefheart, Mc5, Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Amon Duul, and very few others) and 4 stars (Creedence, Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Who, Spirit, Can, Deviants, Led Zeppelin, etc.). But Santana will never reach such heights.
If I give it 4 stars, it's because you can very well say that this was the first WORLD MUSIC album in history.
Young readers/listeners, listen to Santana's first 4 albums, and you can do without the others.

03 Taboo (05:34)
I lay not sleeping
Don't know what to do
Lay out in waiting
Lord for the noon
Pass so slowly
Time without you
I can't see why
My open eyes can't see
So much to look by
So many things to be
Can't keep looking
In and out of me
She looks at nothing
Someone you all have seen
She never cried
As I watched her leave
Try to help me
Find the change in me
Oh, oh, oh
Try to help me
Find the change in me
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Singing, round, singing round, singing round
Singing round, singing round, singing round for everyone
Yeah do it
You can understand everything to share
Let your spirits dance brothers everywhere
Let your head be free
Turn the wisdom key
Find it naturally
See you're lucky to be
If you're sad just spin around
And round and round
Do it
Yes just hold me baby
Something on your back
Lay it down, lay it down, lay it down, lay it down
Don't you know honey maybe
You're like my childless hometown
This ole town, this ole town, this ole town
See it now
Time for you to all get down
Yeah do it
Get ready, get ready, get ready, get ready
Dig this sound
Spinnin' round and round and round
Do it
You can understand everything's to share
Let your spirits dance brother everywhere
Let your head be free
Turn the wisdom key
Find it naturally see your lucky to be
Sing it now

Santana is a unique character: at 22 he was one of the heroes of Woodstock, thanks to his Latin roots he revolutionized Rock by incorporating rhythms and sounds that were nearly unknown in this world into his music.
"Para Los Rumberos" is a truly explosive finale as only the music of an old lion like Carlitos can be!

There are sounds that have the power to transport the listener through a kind of special dimension of consciousness.
The ability to 'objectify' sensations always gives rise to works in which expressiveness is at the highest level.
