Rating: A completely purple album...! I wondered for a few minutes whether to discard it immediately or open it to find out who had the idea to create an album with completely "Purple" graphics...! I am superstitiously sensitive and cannot stand the color purple associated with anything related to entertainment, music, or theater... But the "unhealthy" idea prevailed because the curiosity to discover who dared to commit such a sacrilege was stronger than my superstition.
I discover a project of Songs of Faith and Tradition linked to Christmas...!! ...for some strange reason, during the Christmas holidays, I become kinder, and my heart softens listening to the sound of bagpipes. It must be an ancient legacy or some "engram" from my distant past as a child on the streets of my old Ionian village.
The album of the "Ex Voto" project completely glued me to the headphones... and my mind flew back to my past as an eager child waiting for the night of December 24th and its magic. I had the distinct impression that the music from Sandro Sottile's project had always been the soundtrack of Christmas holidays for as long as I can remember.
The album of the "EX VOTO" project is a dive into the past for those of my age and a window into the magic of Christmas for the younger generations. I don't think there can be any teenager who, in front of a nativity scene, with the harmonies of Sandro Sottile as the background, could remain indifferent. The Ex Voto with this "Songs of Faith and Tradition" enter the soul and cleanse it of the daily grime... They prepare us to face the magic of the end-of-year days with a lighter and more childlike spirit. ...Wooo...!! What a journey, guys!! ...to be experienced!! Even an incurable cynic like me, far from easy emotions and tears, has fallen into the pleasant "trap" devised by that Sandro Sottile, a recognized Mediterranean singer-songwriter.
The ExVoto album is not distributed, and you won't find it in any record stores... this is one of the things that struck me along with everything else. With discretion and quiet elegance, "EX VOTO" present themselves to the public that wants them... just write a simple email to info@sandrosottile.it and the album will be yours. This is something I will never do again... but I still can't escape the childlike "reverie" into which I have sunk to return to being the "rascal" I always was.
An album that aims at the soul, captures it and takes it to those rooms of memory that every Italian, from any latitude and longitude, carries within... and into which we are often afraid to return, not to discover that even at sixty, in a hidden corner, we are still waiting for the "Befana" to arrive.
