SAM & THE BLACK SEAS - Silver
(Atomic Fat)
Silver is the title of the first album by Sam & the Black Seas, a band born in Milan and grown in London, which makes a spectacular debut with a profound and flawlessly crafted record.
The album consists of nine intense and captivating songs:
"Something Went Wrong" opens the record with a melancholic atmosphere created by Samuele's deep voice and a light yet extremely sharp arpeggio; an atmosphere that changes as soon as the cello enters to sweeten the melody.
"Lately" reflects the spirit of the entire album, that is, a very introspective style that is not boring for this reason, straddling folk and indie.
"Silver" reflects a very mature singer-songwriter style in which the harmonizations between the base and the extremely expressive voice make the lyrics extremely tangible.
"The Game" and "Within Me" talk about love through two very different styles, the first through complex, lively, and well-studied folk, while the second in a much lighter and more subdued way, more indie-oriented.
"The Love We Owe" is instead the most pop piece on the album, the presence of the piano and more pronounced production make it a distant yet touching song.
In "The Day That Will Last Forever" and "Heaven Gave Us Blessings" one can observe more closely the significant work done by the rhythmic components, which are more in the background in the first part of the album.
"Agata" closes the album in the same way "Something Went Wrong" opened it, namely with a light arpeggio dominated by the warm voice of the frontman, but this time offering a sense of peace and tranquility.
