Born Too Late. It Was Late. Too Late. But for all of us, devout followers of Sabbath and gloomy rituals, their birth meant a lot. Together with Candlemass, Trouble, and Pentagram born to form a different stream, far from the fanfare and superhuman poses of metal. More real and more heartfelt, one could argue and perhaps that’s why initially it was not fully understood and appreciated.
Saint Vitus. A piece of history as much as this album of theirs. The third one (plus the release of “Walking Dead” an EP of the previous year). Released by SST (Black Flag?) in the distant 1986. Musically, we are faced with fairly long tracks that drew heavily from the blues rock and acid rock of the '70s (as the masters Black Sabbath and Blue Cheer wanted) and that were true hymns to the power of darkness, expressing through gothic/horror sensations in music, the weaknesses of man. H.A.A.G., Dying Inside, Thirsty And Miserable, the very title track are here to show us this.
Extremely slow and dark riffs driven by the ceremonial voice of Scott “Wino” Weinrich and suddenly shaken by gloomy Sabbathian nightmares rendered into sound matter by hallucinatory and psychotic solos, and jamming delusions in profusion. The spirit of true music, that made of sweat and passion, is depicted in this great fresco, to be rediscovered and loved.
To remember what was and what subsequently inspired an entire generation of musicians, but also and above all to listen to a great doom rock album.

02 Clear Windowpane (03:19)
I see colours everywhere
I have things living in my hair
In the dark, I see lights
My brain is working overtime
On clear windowpane
In my house, all things glow
My walls are a living light show
Purple dragons, smoke with me
I have friends only I can see
On clear windowpane
I can't handle coming down
'Cause I can't take the human crowd
I can't face reality
So I fly back to where I am free
On clear windowpane
