THE REVIEW

We Are Waiting All For Hope!!!

In fact, we are all waiting for hope!!! Hope that music of this kind never fades away and that the talents, qualities, songwriting, and emotions of artists of this caliber never fade. I'm reviewing the fourth album by this musical group from Detroit, the Saeta. The name is derived from an Andalusian chant, which was used to emphasize devotion to penance.

The band is essentially made up of three members. Leslie Wood on piano, Matt Menovcik on guitar, and Bob Smolenski handling the cello. The music composed by this trio is sophisticated pop (pop seems like an offense to me), excellent songwriting. Just the right amount of intimate. Emorock. There is no presence of drums in this work, which makes it rich in essential and minimalist sounds. The singing is deservedly and tonally divided between Wood and Menovcik. Sweet, delicate, whispering hers, melancholic and husky his. Melodies perfectly balanced between piano, guitar, and cello. A melancholic and intimate note is present throughout the album. I can draw comparisons with Rachel's, with Nick Cave's duets in Murder Ballads, with Spiritualized, Micah P. Hinson, but above all with a singer I greatly appreciate, Kristin Hersh. The episodes that culminate with emotional vocal peaks and symphonies are Alright, Last Night I Dream That Somebody Loved Me, Everything. The album opens with the splendid Can You Forgive. Wood's piano, Menovcik's guitar, and Smolenski's cello take you by the hand and lead you onto a meadow in the morning, rich with dew, waiting for the sun to come and melt it, as if to melt your heart.

I think that Steve Albini must have felt the same sensations when he decided to produce the album. But how?! Steve Albini? One of the ultimate noisemakers and rowdies?! The animal? Well yes, the animal at least in this episode has become tame.

Kept calling my name

kept reaching out for me tonight

remember the time

remember the space

remember all the dreams that hold us

tried moving on

tried with all of my strength to find you

but you weren't there

no you weren't there for me at all

The sun has come.......
