THE REVIEW

The Greek band Sad arrives at their second CD, after their debut "Total Nothingness" this "A Curse In Disguise" (also released by the unknown "Regimental Records") seems a definite step forward compared to the first. The genre is black metal, in which it is difficult today to find original bands or those worthy of the name. Certainly, bands like "Rotting Christ" or "Necromantia" are a guarantee when it comes to the Hellenic scene.

In this case, the duo composed of Ungod and Nadir does not excel in originality, but the tracks flow without boring, the use of keyboards is absent, thus it is a raw and pure black metal. The opener "Forgotten Existence" starts immediately with a rhythmic style in the full Thy Serpent style with scratchy riffs and Nadir's voice in the forefront, as in the following "Chaos Returns". I was honestly skeptical of the production of this album but I had to change my mind after listening to "Silent Night, Pagan Night", a sort of pagan nursery rhyme reminiscent of early Finntroll while in "Alone I Walk The DarkPaths" the pace becomes faster allowing space for Nadir’s fury among horror screams that leave no room for light. The doomish march of "Death My Redeemer" closes an album that will surely be the launching pad for this combo.

For fans of bands like Throne Of Ahaz, this album is highly recommended.
