THE REVIEW

I purchased this triple live CD by Rush on the very day it was released, being a fan. I had been eagerly awaiting it for some time, and when I finally saw the track list, I started to get excited. In fact (also because it's 3 CDs), all the most significant tracks from this band are here, from the early '70s to now. And then especially, Rush live is truly a spectacle; sometimes I think they are still the best trio that has ever ventured into rock.

That said, I finally move on to listening to the CD, and without giving you a rundown of the more or less beautiful tracks (they're all beautiful!), I'll get straight to my strong personal critique. The recording of this live album is (it breaks my heart) pathetic!! Anyone who knows Rush knows well their meticulousness and super attention to sound... well, this is definitely a tremendous misstep by the band because I assure you it is not acceptable. The sound of the drums is low and dull, the bass is too overpowering, and the guitars are muddled and lose technical clarity. Moreover, the vocals are too low, and the noise of the crowd (more than 200,000 people in Rio de Janeiro for the concert) is too loud, and even though it's enthusiastic, it ruins the sound of the tracks.

In short, a bootleg could have been better. But this is not a bootleg. It's an official live album from a band with 30 years of experience and, if I'm not mistaken, already has 4 live albums to their credit. I'm disappointed. I love Rush, but here the production really messed up. If I were a member of the band, I would have prevented its release. Only recommended for Rush collectors.

Summary by Bot

Rush in Rio features an extensive setlist covering the band's career but suffers from poor recording quality. The bass is overpowering, drums dull, and vocals too low. Crowd noise overwhelms the music, leading to disappointment despite Rush's reputation. Recommended only for dedicated collectors.
