In the intricate darkness of the sonic universe, Runaway Totem emerges as one of the most extraordinary entities in the prog scene in Italy. "Creators," their latest album, seeps into the listener like a celestial and unknown entity, with its textures of keyboards, deep voices, and grandiose choruses, evoking ethereal and romantic atmospheres. Their rich and multifaceted instrumentation unfolds through passages that recall suggestions of musical legends like Magma and Amon Düül II. In this album, which follows the predecessor "Multiversal Matter", the Runaway Totem lead us through an unexplored dimension of cosmic sounds.
"Viators" opens the sonic canvas, an intergalactic journey undertaken by alien races that, with a subtle vision, land on our planet. "Advent Deus" marks the arrival of these alien forms, beings of a non-terrestrial substance, vibrating at higher frequencies, perceived as deities. The sinister "Betelgeuse" echoes the alien music brought by the Star of Betelgeuse, while "Lemuria" transports us to a place and time lost from our memory, ancient and technologically advanced populations, evoked through mysterious notes.
The next chapter, "The Gate of Orion," announces the coming of other alien travelers from Orion, opening dimensional portals and crossing the threshold of our world. "Remembering Betelgeuse" is the alien memory of the music from the star of Betelgeuse, a sinister call to the extraterrestrial presence. With "The Spiral," the narrative takes a dark turn, the will of the aliens to genetically manipulate Earth's populations, trying to mold them into slaves. However, another alien race, inclined towards life, intervenes, creating the divine Man and destroying the intruders' plans.
The culmination of this sonic epic is reached with "Universal Union," an immersion into the primordial essence, where the new Man, connected to his ancestral roots, moves through dark dimensions, returning to a transformed starting point.
The album, masterfully played by The Intergalactic Totem Arkestra, gathers talents like the great David Jackson, former member of Van Der Graaf Generator, Nik Turner from Hawkwind, Sophya Baccini, and Martin Grice. The architect of this sonic journey, Roberto "CAHAL" Gottardi, has composed, directed, and arranged a work that elevates itself as a cosmic symphony, revealing the hidden depths of the unknown through the dark magic of music. "Creators" is more than an album; it is a portal to unexplored worlds, where mystery and grandeur merge into an enveloping symphony, enchanting the listener in the profound abyss of sonic creativity.
