"...in the fetal stage the clitoris is a rudimentary penis."

This is where their name comes from.

And it is incredible how a collective like Rudimentary Peni has almost gone unnoticed in Deb circles. So today, it's my turn to tell you a nice little story.

A trio born in 1980 and still “active,” if it can be called that, today affiliated with the English Anarcho-Punk scene but unique and unmistakable inside and outside said boundaries.
There is little information and few photos about them, but what is certain is the influential figure of Nick Blinko: voice, guitar, lyricist, and the one who created all those beautiful covers searchable in their works. Adding to this is the presence of a schizoaffective disorder, a mix of schizophrenia and depression.

This last detail is not insignificant, as what I am about to discuss is closely linked to Blinko's conditions.
"Pope Adrian 37th Psychristiatric," dated 1995, is the third album (and so far the last) released by the trio, following the release of the landmark debut "Death Church" and the sophomore "Cacophony." A sort of concept album presumably composed by Blinko during a period of detention in a psychiatric hospital, whose protagonist is Pope Adrian XXXVII (in other words, Blinko himself).
The choice of Pope Adrian might be connected to the only English pope in history, Pope Adrian IV.

A serious album or an absolute farce?
No one knows the answer, perhaps not even Blinko. The mind is a strange, powerful thing, your best friend or your worst enemy.

When negativity grips you, it's difficult, too difficult, to think about anything that isn't negative. And if for 43 minutes I hear a voice constantly repeating "Papas Adrianus" it's clear that in the end, I believe it. I become "Papas Adrianus."

It's around this kind of minimalism that the work predominantly revolves, the obsessive repetition of a few words and verses, maybe unconsciously devoid of meaning. One must immerse oneself in Blinko's mind, empathize with the experience of an individual in a hospital of that type. With the intake of certain drugs and their effects on the mind, senses, and body.
The "good" and the "bad" - the melodic bass and the corrosive guitar - words well plastered and the almost incessant babble.

But then, in the end, what is normality? I am Galensorg I of the County of Debaser.
