They started as a Floyd cover band, but like Giotto, sometimes the pupil surpasses the master??? Let no one blaspheme!!! But certainly, these RPWL have built their own identity on their experience as interpreters, with an absolutely personal sound that is anything but cliché.
They definitely show a lack of imagination in choosing their name (the initials of the surnames of the first members), but to me, they've had plenty of it in blending about thirty years of prog-rock, from the best Genesis, to Marillion, to the fantastic "delusions" of Steve Wilson and his Porcupine Tree, a splash of Dream Theater, and as shown by this live double work, a fair technique of musicians, perhaps not supreme, but sufficiently in tune to make this live album surely enjoyable from the first listen.
Sometimes the tracks, especially the lengthy ones like "Cymbaline," appear too sophisticated and pompous, but genuine gems aren't lacking like "Roses," or the wonderful "Hole In The Sky." The cover of Pink Floyd's "Welcome To The Machine" or the insignificant "Not About Us" from the worst Genesis weren't needed, and indeed limit their merits and make the ghosts of the past reappear. Therefore, in my opinion, a good rating and an invitation to listen to this German band, certainly little known but absolutely enjoyable.
For those who, like me, are still moved by the prog-rock of the good old days, a glimmer in a musically impoverished and fairly cliché scene in this genre. Live of 2005, a summary of the group's early production.
