THE REVIEW

The "Columbia Country Classics" collection also includes this compilation, a precious depiction of the very early years of Roy Acuff's career, a multifaceted man, aspiring athlete and politician, visionary recording artist, crowned king of the Grand Ole Opry, but above all one of the absolute protagonists in the American musical scene of the early twentieth century.

Twenty essential tracks, dry and stripped of frills, refer to the most uncompromising, conservative country tradition, both in the themes addressed and in the arrangements proposed. The tracklist features true classics (among many, Wreck on the Highway, Tennessee Waltz, Wabash Cannon Ball) and, at the same time, compositions little known to most, and precisely for this reason, doubly interesting.

The songs from the great folk tradition are not missing, reworked according to the canons of the time.

Before the inevitable artistic turns of the seventies and eighties, before the recognitions and career awards, on this CD it is possible to listen to youthful performances, sometimes still unripe, certainly genuine.

For genre enthusiasts, an absolute must. For the simply curious, sixty minutes to engage with an authentic country legend, all the way to his roots.
