"Circo Immaginario" is the splendid album of a splendid artist. The album is inspired by the novel of the same name by Sara Cerri. It is a truly eclectic work. It ranges from waltz to tango, from Balkan music to gypsy swing. But we also find tracks that would fit well sung by a Disney princess and, furthermore, some instrumental tracks of a sweetness that recalls the best of Satie. All with a single denominator, which is the cheerful sadness (or sad joy, if you prefer...) of the circus universe. And, mind you, the circus should not be understood merely as a tent where clowns and acrobats perform. This is a metaphorical circus... vaguely Felliniesque. The circus of life. And on the same theme, it is certainly not easy to come out with an interesting album, mainly because the theme has been thoroughly explored and dissected (Capossela, Mannarino, Orselli, Sirianni, Tessadri, just to name a few).

Here Sofia is the young protagonist of the novel who alone... must grow up, that is, find her own way. In the novel as in the album.

In short, listening to this CD, I found verses and melodies that made me think, in addition to the already mentioned Satie, also of Waits, Capossela, Bregovic, Thiersen, and Goyeneche! Rossana Casale knows a lot about music and has a beautiful voice. A work of rare sensitivity.

Absolutely recommended.
