Roger Waters returns with two political songs, proving that his lyrical streak is still alive, unlike his musical one. Always boasting of his doubtful musician qualities, once again he proves to be repetitive and boring on this front. By repeating the cliché of the long song, half-spoken, invigorated by his screams and the backing vocalists, Roger Waters unequivocally demonstrates his total inadequacy as a musician and arranger. One feels inclined to agree with the millionaire Gilmour, who for years has claimed credits for himself and others regarding songs signed by Waters alone. After six years, it seems our dear Ruggiero has also completed his opera CA IRA, and next year his new album will see the light of day.

Screaming in chorus "welcome back" (Waters' last studio work dates back to 1992!), we tremble in the face of these premises. But die-hard fans keep hope alive, namely that a spark of creativity (and perhaps fruitful collaborations with better musicians) pervades the recordings of the new work, and one won't be forced to translate the lengthy lyrics to have something interesting on hand. Our dear "armchair socialist" (as he was labeled some time ago by Richard Wright) seems to still have something to say in this new millennium... but are we sure there will be ears to listen? Only time will tell. Sometimes they come back.
