Roger McGuinn (born 1942) is an American singer-songwriter and founding member of the Byrds, known for pioneering folk rock and his signature 12-string Rickenbacker jangle.

Founding member of the Byrds; noted for the jangle 12-string electric guitar sound; collaborated with Bob Dylan (including Rolling Thunder Revue) and with Mick Ronson on solo records; released several solo albums in the 1970s covered in these reviews (Roger McGuinn; Peace on You; Cardiff Rose; Roger McGuinn & Band; Thunderbyrd).

DeBaser's reviews (all by mien_mo_man) cover several of Roger McGuinn's 1970s solo albums and his backing bands. Reviewers praise moments of compositional freshness, arrangements and collaborations (notably with Mick Ronson and session musicians). Common criticisms are uneven execution, disappointing covers, and inconsistent songwriting across albums. Cardiff Rose is highlighted as a notable high point among the solo records.

For:Fans of 1960s–70s folk rock, followers of the Byrds, and listeners curious about McGuinn's 1970s solo experiments.

The fact remains that in "Roger McGuinn," our protagonist shows a compositional freshness that the last works of his band did not capture, and it was even less found in the album of the attempted return to former glory.

Mick Ronson greatly supports a McGuinn in top form, and one is almost amazed by how well the duo functions.

"Thunderbyrd" is a poorly conceived and even more poorly executed work by an artist lacking balance, who, since he couldn't restrain himself from producing in his own name, wouldn't release a solo album for fourteen years due to the law of compensation.

Only the delicate little ballad "Easy Does It" might be saved.

"Peace On You" represents the natural follow-up to the previous "Roger McGuinn," namely the second step towards stylistic perfection in blending all American music, this time giving more prominence (folk rock aside, of course) to gospel.
