Roddy Doyle (born 1958) is an Irish novelist and screenwriter, author of the Barrytown books and Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha (Booker Prize winner, 1993).

Winner of the 1993 Booker Prize for Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha; author of The Commitments (1987), which was adapted as a film; born in Dublin in 1958.

The single DeBaser review compares Doyle to Irvine Welsh and Nick Hornby, presenting A Year of Good Living as an episodic, sitcom-like chronicle of Charlie Savage's life. The reviewer finds the book enjoyable and humane but not transformative, rating it 3.5/5.

For:Readers of contemporary Irish fiction; fans of character-driven, working-class stories and gentle, ironic humour.

Therefore, A Year of Good Living is a good book, not a great book.
