Well, since a "big name" has brought back a déjà-vu from the past like "Afric Simone"... what can I say, I'll try to dust off the hits from when I was a child too.
Ramaya was certainly among them, along with another great hit ("Sugar Baby Love, is anyone reviewing it?)... but there was another, I’d say a great one: the legendary, yet underrated Rockets! Who doesn't remember that stroke of genius "On The Road Again"? Yes, I say stroke of genius because turning an old song that couldn't be more bluesy into an excellent cover, played by synths and sung with a vocoder... well, that took great courage.

These French gentlemen certainly made their small mark in '70s-'80s electronic music. Nothing transcendental, just the credit of making music played with synths accessible, in an era when everyone called them "the moog" (!), and the undisputed leader of such a genre, at least in Italy, seemed to be Il Guardiano del Faro (double sigh).
I recommend rediscovering them, also because they produced some great tracks: "On The Road Again", "Electric Delight", "Galactica"... They undoubtedly managed to excellently combine guitars and basses with synths, vocoders, and electronic Simmons. And the look also sparked curiosity. I've been told of quite respectable live performances as well.
Obviously, no intention of placing them in the hall of the best electronic artists, nothing like Kraftwerk, to be clear, but... if you're looking for something that won't make you fall asleep like Tangerine Dream, well, lend them an ear, you might find something surprising...

Well I'm so tired of cryin'
I'm out on the road again,
I'm out on the road again.
Well I'm so tired of cryin'
I'm out on the road again,
I'm out on the road again.
I ain't got no woman just
to call my special friend.

You know the first time I traveled
Out in the rain and snow,
In the rain and snow.
You know the first time I traveled
Out in the rain and snow,
In the rain and snow.
I didn't have no fare, oh, not even no
place to go.

And my dear mother left me,
When I was quite young,
When I was quite young.
And my dear mother left me,
When I was quite young,
When I was quite young.
She said: "Lord have mercy on my
wicked son"

Take a tip from me, mama,
Please, don't you cry no more,
Don't you cry no more.
Take a tip from me, mama,
Please, don't you cry no more,
Don't you cry no more
'Cause it's soon one mornin' down the
road I'm goin'.

But I ain't goin' down
That long old lonesome road
All by myself.
But I ain't goin' down
That long old lonesome road
All by myself.
I can't carry you baby gonna carry
somebody else.

I cannot sleep tonight
Feel like I'm gonna lose my mind
My head is filled with light
Can't believe what I saw
What happened to my wife
Makes me scared but I've got to know
And I would give my life
But I don't let it show

'Cause you're atomic, atomic, radiations of your brain
Yes, you're atomic, atomic, kill me softly, feel no pain
You're so atomic, atomic, pleasin' my soul, burnin' my heart

She's alien to this world
Staring me thru her diamond eyes
A different kind of girl
When I touch her she's cold as ice
Her body's precious gold
And I did pay the price

'Cause you're atomic, atomic, need your deadly kiss again
Yes, you're atomic, atomic, you're the poison in my veins
You're so atomic, atomic, pleasin' my soul, burnin' my heart

I knew it from the start
When she told me she was from Mars
I thought it would be nice
Only forgot she had no heart
Loved you like playing with fire
In the end I get burned
