ROCKARDIA - Past Novelties
(Self-Produced)
This is a very mature rock album, this PAST NOVELTIES. A debut album showing a band that plays intensely, with a well-blended sound, and guitars used with wisdom and originality. Whether it's sharp riffs, simple rhythmic loops, or arpeggios that open the sound towards more floating, reflective territories (despite a sort of "frontal assault" that runs through almost the entire album), the guitars perform excellently. And the bandmates, namely the rhythm section, provide impeccable support to the guitarist, the true protagonist of the album. Despite the decidedly rock foundation, the album takes on a pop twist thanks to the singer's voice and, above all, the lyrics. Lyrics that clearly speak of loves. Ended loves, missed loves. In short, a purely pop imagery which, although skillfully staged by the singer, doesn't quite "fit" with the rest of the group's musical proposal. Change the vocalist? Or change the content?
