LA RECENSIONE

Nick Drake... Needs no introduction.

Roberto Angelini... Roman singer-songwriter, "stepson" of art, critics' award at the Sanremo Festival (youth category) 2001 with the song "Il Sig. Domani", in 2003 he decides it's time to make money and releases (in the summer) the single "Gatto Matto", yes, that's him, the one from "Gatto Matto". In the future "Gatto Matto" will mainly be played in an acoustic version, and once the money is made, Angelini will prove to be an excellent guitarist.

Rodrigo D'Erasmo..... Violinist.

What ties these two guys to the English singer-songwriter? Love. And PongMoon is the fruit of the love they feel for Drake. A reinterpretation of nine tracks in the style of voice, guitar, and violin, except for the splendid "Three Hours", played with bass and percussion just like the original, but in general, the reproduction of all the songs is very faithful to the original versions. A negative note could be the imperfect English pronunciation of the Roman singer-songwriter, but who cares, it's certainly not the pronunciation that makes this work a sincere piece, after all, it's like this, Nick Drake's music is not listened to, it's loved.

What to say about D'Erasmo... He does his part, he strives to sweeten the melodies with his violin. In particular, he replaces the piano in "Pink Moon", but his is still a supporting role.

Angelini, on the other hand, proves to be pure, passionate, and sincere. He strives to imitate the timbre and manages to masterfully reproduce Drake's complicated arpeggios. It almost inspires tenderness, he seems like a young student trying to reach the level of his master. Sure, he has still shown little on a creative level, but with this homage, he proves to be an excellent performer and surely demonstrates himself as a great admirer of Nick Drake's poetry, you can hear it from the transparency of his voice.

The cover is also a reinterpretation. It is the cover of Pink Moon, recreated with clay. The video for "Day is Done", chosen as a single, was also made with clay.

"Gatto Matto" forgotten, therefore forgiven, thus on the right path....
