LA RECENSIONE

WHAT IS THIS STUFF?

Thinking I had rented a surrogate of Romero, I find myself facing a "thing" that seems to have come out of the trashiest 70s.

Does any of you remember a certain "Death Proof"? That movie by Mr. Tarantino that paid homage to exploitation action films like "Vanishing Point" and so on?

I do. At least before discovering its "Rodriguez style" counterpart, totally senseless and exaggerated that YOU CAN'T SAY SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS....

Yes, this absurd delirium I witnessed is a huge mess, but intentionally so. We're in one of those cases where the film is deliberately idiotic and delirious, and it's well done!

The story is so complicated I won't even tell you, since everything is so unexpected (a zombie epidemic, rare stuff nowadays) that you're surprised, you find yourself fascinated by everything, from the intentionally retro editing to the thousands of references to other films that only the producer's grandmother and the director know ("Nightmare City" or even the beautiful "Milano calibro 9") plus some cameos by Bruce Willis and Tom Savini. All sprinkled with action and absurd absurdities (the hooker with the M4 instead of a leg???????)

If Quentin's film, as well made as it was, made me roll my eyes (de gustibus...) this is a continuous random trip of infected zombies coming out of the damn walls, testicle detachments, random explosions, frenetic and retro editing, children playing with scorpions, killer doctors and killer doctors' bisexual wives. Did I make my point?

DON'T have too many expectations: if you're looking for a clean movie, I would suggest, well, I don't know....

...MAYBE GO [EXPLETIVE] YOURSELF?

A masterpiece of exaggeration, even the fake (at least until 2010) "Machete" trailer at the beginning, better the two minutes of that than the 100 of the real one in my opinion :-)

If you want the plot, find it on Wikipedia, since everybody has reviewed this movie, or I can even summarize it: New virus, infected invasion, someone is immune and will save the world (more or less), DE ENND!

Summary by Bot

Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse: Planet Terror is an intentionally chaotic and absurd homage to ’70s exploitation cinema. The film embraces over-the-top gore, frenetic editing, and bizarre characters, creating a wild and entertaining zombie experience. Unlike its Tarantino counterpart Death Proof, it fully commits to its delirious style. Fans of cult horror and retro gore will find much to enjoy here.

The movie... does not follow a logical thread... maybe the sense of the story lies in nonsense?

A film of pure entertainment, which however, darn, touches on very serious topics such as terrorism, bacteriological warfare, and power.
