Falling Into Komëit

Music by subtraction or music played between spaces of silence: this is "Falling into Komëit" by Robert Lippok (one of the founders of Tarwater and the more famous To Rococo Rot), his second solo work following the debut "Open, Close, Open" (Raster Noton label, 20029).

Electronics meet relaxed and, in some cases, acoustic moods (see "Holler") where Julia Kliemann's voice becomes ethereal, intangible, and sublime (the opening "I Can Tell") weaving emotional fabrics between heartbeats and giving the album an unmatched overall refinement, where the disoriented ear wanders in search of subtle tones, lo-fi sounds, and "warm and enveloping" rhythms despite their electronic technical execution (The splendid "Parade" with its rhythmic and hypnotic momentum). Also noteworthy is the track "Rearrange," closely related to the sound of Dani Siciliano (whom I will review shortly).

Attention: No revolution or significant novelty, let's make it clear, not a masterpiece especially for those who already indulge in this "warm" and minimalist electronics (Pan American, Tortoise, To Rococo Rot, indeed...) but still an excellent and classy work, with a focus on sounds and arrangements always a cut above the average global electronic production. A pleasantly irresistible album...
