Robert E. Howard (1906–1936) was an American pulp fiction writer, creator of Conan the Barbarian and author of Weird Tales stories.

Howard published widely in pulp magazines (notably Weird Tales), corresponded with H.P. Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith, and is credited with founding modern sword-and-sorcery fiction.
