Robbie Williams, former member of the band Take That, achieved success with his second solo album I've Been Expecting You. This compilation contains a great variety of songs for all tastes, because Robbie's voice, although very melodic and well-used, is not at all heavy (an artist I admire a lot but who has this flaw is Tom Jones).
The tracks that propelled this CD to the top of the charts for many consecutive weeks (at least in Malaysia, it was so) were "Millennium" and "No Regrets".
Every time I listen to "Millennium", thanks to its female choirs and the background strings, it manages to give me an impressive emotional boost; the lyrics are well matched to the song and finally, the voice of this singer ensures that none of these tracks feel cloying (and if we could admire him live, that would be even better...).
I consider this CD one of the best he has ever recorded in his solo career, because we don't find the usual overused topics of: "love and peace in the world"... In "No Regrets", there's a Robbie who holds his former bandmates accountable for their inappropriate behavior, which was also the cause of Take That's breakup. Songs like "Jesus in a Camper Van", "Phoenix From the Flame" and "These Dreams" are a perfect example of songs with very varied, not at all monotonous lyrics.
I would also like to point out that I have owned this album for five years and I am not yet tired of listening to it because I haven't found the so-called "filler tracks" on it, and even if there were, I would like them too!
A great CD that reflects the tastes of anyone who listens to it.
