THE REVIEW

Here I am back on Debaser this time to review an artist little known on the site and in Italy, I'm talking about Robben Ford, an excellent guitarist with great technique who has a predominantly jazz style, adding that extra touch with his guitar.

The album I'm discussing today is "Bringing It Back Home" from 2013, a completely jazz album with a prominent bass constantly in the background, highlighted immensely. Additionally, there are guitar embellishments that remind me of a certain Eric Clapton, it may not be the same, but the style is there: a few notes with a truly pleasant effect. If you listen more carefully, the keyboard is present, with the voice always very calm in the foreground, all creating a very sweet, relaxing, and above all, jazz atmosphere. The album consists of 10 tracks with a total duration of about 49 minutes, which over time may become heavy to listen to precisely because it is too jazz, but here's where in the third track "Fair Child" the rhythm changes, from calmness it shifts to a more cheerful rhythm, as does the lyrics, the bass line is more complex, the guitar is even more highlighted, and especially the drums are further emphasized, a true breath of fresh air, but then everything returns to the same tracks. In every piece, there are solos that are up to the standard, besides the guitar ones as in every respectable jazz album, there are also those from the saxophone in particular.

It's not an album I particularly love, especially since I find the voice highly irritating, it never has a change in tone, too calm, too crystal clear, in short, it always follows the same tone throughout the album and is highly soporific, but that's just a personal impression, a piece of advice, listen to it because it deserves it for the instrumental parts but I stop at four stars only because apart from one piece there is never a change of rhythm, jazz is fine but it's all too calm, in the long run, it's like a brick wall if I have to be honest.

Summary by Bot

Robben Ford's 2013 album Bringing It Back Home offers excellent jazz guitar and instrumental solos with a prominent bass and saxophone presence. The calm, unvarying vocal tone and largely steady rhythm make the album somewhat monotonous over its 49-minute duration. The third track, Fair Child, introduces a refreshing upbeat change, but the rest remains consistently mellow. The reviewer appreciates the musicianship but finds the album less engaging overall.
