It had been 5 years of waiting, and now they're back again, live.
Ritmo Tribale still exist, and after the extraordinary evening they gave their fans at the Fillmore on Saturday, March 17th, 2007, they have at least the obligation not to disappear for too long anymore.
The live reunion was conceived as a unique event to present the release of the double CD best of "Uomini," which will be released on March 23rd. To tell the truth, news of this concert was only circulating on the internet and on sites more connected to the group, like their MySpace. There was no trace of the event in the specialist print media. Thus, in the warm Fillmore of Cortemaggiore, the true die-hard fans of the band gathered, like me, nostalgic for the golden years of the group, when they had very few rivals on the Italian rock scene.
The anticipation is overwhelming, and the desire to see one's youthful idols back in action is strong, even though the absence of Edda on vocals, now unreachable for about ten years (by the way, has anyone any certain news about him? Apart from some legends that he might be in India or in a community detoxifying from drugs?), leaves a bit of bitterness.
The start of the concert is a breathtaking blow, considering it has been at least five years since our guys played live; one immediately feels in front of an event. Andrea Scaglia is a true stage animal and has taken on, besides the task of replacing Edda on vocals, which is certainly not easy, the role of a true leader of the group with his sarcastic demeanor and his riff-grinding guitar. Scaglia is excited and eager, and it's apparent from the start. The others, after the first few minutes of warm-up they get into gear and there will be no stopping them. Briegel on bass is the usual hammer and forms a fearsome rhythmic duo with Alex Marcheschi. Fabrizio Rioda on guitar is not very flashy but is the true soul of the group. Lastly, Talia on keyboards performs, as usual, her task, which is to enrich the songs without distorting the rock power with the keyboards.
The TRIBALI put their career on display, and thus follow "L'ASSOLUTO, AMARA, CIRCONDATO, SOGNA, OCEANO, TI DETESTO, UOMINI, LUMINA, NESSUNO, ANTIMATERIA, BANDIERE, 12 LINEE, PSYCHO" and many other songs that cover their entire career with the addition of some unreleased tracks surely present in the upcoming best of. Aside from the few tracks drawn from "Tutti vs. Tutti," my favorite, the setlist was extraordinary, and after more than two intense and exciting hours of electric, heavy, psychedelic, sweet and dreamy music they left us with BOCCA CHIUSA.
What can I say, rarely have I been so impressed in a live setting as this time, maybe it was the nostalgia…
WELCOME BACK RITMO TRIBALE!
