"...the planet was an immense painting of a variety of races, emotions, moods, flavors, smells, colors…" (I Had a Dream - Rita Marcotulli)
Why did I get lost in this music? What exactly is this music? Is it jazz? Also. Ethnic? Perhaps. Electronic? At times.
But, really, is it so important to know? Are classifications always necessary? Maybe not.
Away with enclosures and barriers then. It is music. Good music. I like it. That's enough for me.
By experimenting with the union of different musical genres, roots, and cultures, Rita Marcotulli manages with this album to unsettle the listener and unmoor them from certainties and easy mental schemas. The album, in fact, seeks a common musical language that does not, however, make the worlds and cultures involved uniform.
Unite while maintaining diversity: an ambitious, difficult operation but overall successful. Thanks also to the vibrant presence of exceptional musicians among whom, just to name a few, Andy Sheppard, Anja Garbarek, Lena Willemark, Palle Danielsson, Gianmaria Testa, Roberto Gatto, Arto Tuncboyaciyan, Javier Girotto, Anders Jormin, Metaxu. The contribution of each of them is clearly perceived during listening.
Take for example the track "Il richiamo" characterized by Lena Willemark's voice.
Nevertheless, it is the musical sensibility of Rita Marcotulli, as an interpreter at the piano and author of the album's tracks, that acts as the trait d'union for the atmospheres evoked at different times, which are sometimes Nordic, sometimes Mediterranean, sometimes African...
The result is a beautiful, courageous, pleasant, and exciting album, to be listened to and listened to again.

This album breaks into your mind. Homeopathy of Nino Rota in the last track, at the end of a beautiful journey.
A difficult album to review because it unexpectedly confounds expectations and nonetheless leaves you with a strong aftertaste of an obligatory and quick return to listening.
