We’ve all wondered this a bit while listening to this limited edition seven-inch vinyl released by Fat Wreck, the same label that released the first two LPs before the band moved under Geffen. This session is the result of a bet made between the group and the leader of NOFX, that is, to eventually release a seven-inch vinyl for his label.
The two songs included here are two tracks from the recording sessions of "Appeal To Reason", not included in that work due to their difference from the rest of the material, as they are closer to their beginnings and had remained unpublished until now.
A question arises spontaneously when pressing play and starting the blazing and detonating notes of "Grammatizator," but are these really Rise Against, the ones who released Call to Reason a year before?
It’s them, perhaps in disguise and makeup, but it’s them, Tim's voice pushed to the limit of a scream and beyond, although completely unrecognizable and perhaps indigestible to the latest fans, it’s his.
This track immediately brings to mind historical pieces like "State Of Union", being a breath of fresh air, enhanced by a production never so minimal and sparse for any work signed by Rise Against.
Then comes "Voice Of Dissent" which slightly diminishes the uproar created by the previous one and perhaps halves the enthusiasm created by the previous, but it opens the doors of your room directly with a view to the eighties and those bands (but do we really need to mention them here?) to which good old Tim claims to be inspired.
Unfortunately, just an experiment, a damn April fool’s joke, seeing the horizon at the time of release uncertain, just a five-minute game without thinking about the consequences.. but isn't this the spirit of hardcore?
