LA RECENSIONE

After Gladiator, the duo Scott - Crowe reunites to create this insipid comedy (perhaps a romance?).

The plot is fairly banal: he, Crowe, grows up in Provence at his uncle's estate. As he grows older, he becomes a successful high finance broker in London, who has no room in his life for feelings; he's become a shark in search of success at all costs. His uncle's sudden death leads him to journey back to the Provence of his childhood. The journey, besides being physical, is meant to be a journey towards the redemption of his "soul," making him a simpler person, more attentive to others, and especially uninterested in work. All of this is seasoned with the usual woman who will unquestionably make him struggle, resulting in a happy ending.

The story is very unbelievable, especially because Crowe gives a terrible acting performance. I also think that him being an Aussie makes it all the less realistic. The French woman, then, is the classic collection of stereotypes about the French: grumpy, impulsive, and, above all, very full of herself.

Thinking that in the video store that evening I could have chosen "Into The Wild," but the woman wanted "A Romantic Comedy"... I'm still kicking myself.

To Avoid!!!
