RICCARDO GILENO - The Curse EP
(Tunecore)
The Curse EP is the title of the first solo work by Riccardo Gileno, a singer-songwriter originally from Trieste, who makes a great debut with a profound and perfectly produced record (together with Matteo Brenci).
The album talks about how even the most beautiful things that happen to us in life can turn into real nightmares, but it also wants to be an incentive, a starting point, to get back on your feet after a difficult moment: “staying down a little, in trouble, trying to understand and analyze the pain that strikes us is, in my opinion, the only way to get out of the darkest and hardest periods that life has in store,” says Gileno.
The album consists of four intense and enchanting songs:
Theory opens the record with a bright atmosphere, in constant crescendo, created by Riccardo's deep voice and a light but extremely sweet guitar arpeggio; an atmosphere that changes as soon as the percussion, piano, and strings gradually come in, creating an almost smooth atmosphere.
In How? an evocative arpeggio echoes, following a very introspective style between folk and indie, almost recalling Bon Iver's atmospheres.
Days shows a mature singer-songwriter style enriched by folk harmonizations.
While Friend/Enemy closes the record with timid strumming à la Damien Rice, overshadowed by the warm and sinuous voice of the young artist followed by distant choruses, and imparts a sense of peace and awareness to experience.
