Caterina hasn't slept for two nights now. She started reading a novel to distract herself from the move that took her away from her home. She never imagined, however, that she would find herself reading her own story, the true story of her life, and in black and white, she finds her secret.
A secret she has kept hidden for twenty years and has never revealed to her husband, much less to her son, who has recently started living on his own.
On the other side, there is the parallel story of a professor who has just retired, a widower for a few years.
Facing a new reality is tough. They were a couple dedicated to writing, even though they never published anything nationally. So to pass the time and, above all, to fill the melancholy of solitude, he decides to write a new novel. He has never had a laptop and decides to use his old typewriter. He desperately searches for a ream of paper throughout the house. Finally, he finds it in the old desk, but it's stuck in a false bottom. When he manages to pull the sheets out of this drawer, he discovers a bag belonging to his wife. Happy, he opens the bag in the hope of finding some memories that can give him a bit of energy and, why not, maybe even the strength to start this new writing. Inside, there are photos depicting his wife in very sexy and provocative poses. Photos that were almost pornographic. From there, the hatred and the inability to confront his wife are born.
Why did the wife hide these photos in the house? Could she have done it on purpose, hoping that someday her husband would discover this vile secret?
At the same moment, what terrible thing has Caterina done that keeps her from sleeping at night?
Who wrote the novel that features her as the protagonist?

This is the latest novel by English writer Renee Knight.
The book is fascinating for the chapters that alternate between the two main characters.
It has been very well translated and reads easily.

And what if the next book you start reading were about you?
