This is definitely Renato Zero's best work.
It took me thirty years to understand it, it's hard to discard anything from this work. A perfect balance between rhythmic tracks and not. It starts off great with "Qualcuno mi renda l'anima" a heart-wrenching track where in the end the victim becomes the perpetrator, the play on words shifts from "qualcuno mi renda" to "qualcuno mi venda l'anima". The whole album is a journey about who we are, what we seek, who we want. "L'evento" is about being oneself as he repeats in the song "Io sono io ma un evento poi non è". "113" even though it's a kitsch track with those little guitars, talks about the loneliness of every person here taken to the extreme. The idea of calling 113 to talk to someone is ingenious.
"Inventi" is a definitely Zerian piece where he tells his story during the makeup phase before stepping on stage "Inventi le mie forme lo stile è quello tuo, poi chiudo gli occhi sul nome mio quel che inventi lo sò son sempre io". "Metrò" another light piece where "doing it on the metro is madness, come to my place" between paisley patterns and quadraphony. "Il tuo safari" the most rock-infused track in Renato's entire discography, with him as the prey of her or him. "Tu che sei mio fratello" again loneliness "Tu che vivi in silenzio non scordare il nome mio". Perhaps more than a brother, that missing parent in "113"?
"Mani" these blessed cursed hands that physically bind us? S&M games? Surely the usual puritans think of this looking at the character when instead the hands that bind us are theirs, those of the bien-pensant. "Depresso" if Zero owes something musically to Bowie this is the track to listen to, the intro is grand "Cado così mi trascina non sò chi attraverso corsie non capisco che cosa è successo sono depresso". This for...... I forgot "Vamos" the only sore note, at that time perfect albums were only achieved by Battisti.
But musically how is this masterpiece of Renato Zero. Given that, in my opinion, Mr. Renato Serio has nothing to do with Zero, one was a crazy madman while the other indeed serious, with all his helmet violins (it's not a mistake). This album is arranged by a certain Ruggero Cini and you can tell from the arrangements, we will have to wait for Artide Antardite in 1981 to not be banal. What else can I say, there are those who age well like what do I know... De André, Battisti (he might not have been liked but at least didn't continue his career filling us with useless songs every year). The list could go on, it's up to you. bye
Tracklist and Lyrics
04 Inventi (03:29)
Inventi quella luce
ma sono gli occhi miei
mentre ti guardo io non so più
dove finisco io e cominci tu
